9- a film by tim burton

9- The new movie from Tim Burton.

To sum up the movie: A character 9 (Elijah Wood), a rag doll is left with few others in a ravaged, nightmare world.

Up's

  • It' got Elijah Wood, (Lord of the Rings, Everything is Illuminated); can't go wrong with him.

  • It was adapted from an academy award winning short with the same name.

  • It's made with Burton style, halloween-like nightmare animation.

Down's

  • No claymation. Bye stop-motion! I loved you so. With today's technology we can say goodbye to it.

  • Not the traditional Burton style-however. It has no skinny-legged skeletons with music blasting party monsters. :(

  • We can't expect the usual Burton-cast: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, that one old guy that sounds like Morgan Freeman, etc...

  • Change-is-a' coming. We will no longer have the old Timmy as we used to. Plots have been taken and technology has kicked in. As Jack Johnson once said, "Where all da good people go?"

it's back!

Yeah! New release! Tamagotchi's Round the World game for iPods and iPhones recently came out! The last time I even remember playing Tamagotchi was when I was 6 and they only had the little handheld pixel-crazy, feed your pet and watch it dance game. Now, I think they have some cool DS games and they worlds online and stuff. Times are a changing!

interview with loveandasandwich

We interviewed the amazing artist and plush maker Love and A Sandwich!

Recess Blog (R) : What inspires you in your art? Is it based off someone you know?

Loveandasanwich (L) : Other art constantly inspires me. Clothing design, architecture, cinematography, other plush artists. Animal documentaries are really inspiring. The things I enjoy doing in my everyday life inspire me too. Usually when I start a new design I just think of everything I like and how I could combine a lot or a few of those things into one plush.

R: How would you describe your sense of style? What do you make the most?

L: Bright, spontaneous and cutesy creepy. I definitely make monsters the most, they're my favorite because there's unlimited ways you can make them.

R: What cartoon character are you most like?

L: I'm like Ash Ketchum (from Pokemon), I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was.

R : What do you think people should look forward to? Like a new design?

L : Oh man, ummm. I've been planning a lot of things lately. I'm working on a plush project with my pal cat called ME PLUSH YOU which is gonna be started in mid-January. I'm working on some 3 foot tall monsters, and I have my website in progress! And maybe some paintings, too.

R: Just imagine you're president. What would be your first official act?

L: Banish Bush to Iraq for eeeeternityyyyyy.

R: You've made several items. What's your favorite and why?

L: Hahaha I've made quite more than several! I don't know if I could pick a favorite, they're like my children! You love them all. But I think it would be either Weeko or Bunwich.

R: What's your advice to the gazillions of people out in the world looking at your art?

L: Haha gazillions!? Well, straight out of the mouth of The Tick, don't be a crybaby, be a TRYbaby.

the edge- indian bon bon

The Edge is an updated series of innovative designs and different, sometimes bizarre, clothing.
This is Indian Bon Bon. A decked out world made from a converse shoe. I would like to thank Aggie for making this and giving the world something to look at. If you would like to view our interview with the artist, Aggie click here.

it! what I saw today

Yes. We've all seen street style. Those pictures of people posing showing off their everyday fashion. Well, here's a little twist. What I Saw Today is a blog featuring hand-drawn street style. "Designer-Man" publishes new sketches frequently and never fails to bore. His intriguing drawings are updated always with a new style. Click the pic or go here: http://designerman-whatisawtoday.blogspot.com/

nightmare revisted

I thought of the perfect Christmas gift! Nightmare Before Christmas' Nightmare Revisted. Nightmare Revisted is the soundtrack to Nightmare Before Christmas but instead of having the original cast play the songs, Danny Elfman, the composer, chose indie and rock bands to give a new twist to it. Such artists play songs as, Marilyn Manson (creepy!), Flyleaf, Amy Lee, and RjD2. Sweet, Right!?
You can pick up a copy from Amazon for $14

And if you don't like the bands or have some personal problems with the singers because they cut you in line at the mall that one day you can always pick up the original soundtrack here.

Plus, if you haven't read the interview we recently had with Aggie just look below!

Interview with European Artist, Aggie

I had a chance to interview the amazing artist, Aggie. She is a European artist working on collage and photography. I loved her sense of style and asked a few questions:

Recess (R) : What inspires you in your art? Is there anybody that you look up to?

Aggie (A): Nature is my main inspiration. I live in a green area so i get to see plenty of it and it fills me up.. peacefully. Also the human body and my dreams; I dream at night pretty often..

R: Do you only do art or are there other things you enjoy?

A: I learn to enjoy everything.. I enjoy living. Haha! I do like playng the guitar verrry much and I love to take baths. One thing I recently love are the conversations with someone that makes me feel warm inside.
R: If you could compare yourself to one of the Disney characters, who would it be?

A: JANE!! (from Tarzan)
''You are fascinated by the beauty of the animal kingdom. You love to study and explore, but be careful not to anger any baby monkeys!I will now label you: artistic, educated, teacher, proper, and compassionate...and ticklish.''

R: What’s your favorite piece of yours?

A: It's hard to pick one, like among children... you can't chose, you love 'em all.

R: You have several boots that you’ve made. Is there something to look forward to? A new design, perhaps?

A: I have no idea. and I have no time for boots... since I'm talking to people. Haha!
But, umm... honestly I think if I don't get any special orders or something I'm not going to continue that designing project.Even though i love to do it.. there are other things that I love now and I want to stay focused, if you know what i mean! ;]

R: You are a fortune cookie. What’s the lucky number and the advice or fortune?

A: The answer is 42- and the advice would be simple.. "Dream On."

R: If you could describe your art in one word, what would it be?

A: Paaaaancaaakes!!!!

totoro

I was recently in a dream when I saw Totoro on a wall mural. That inspired me to wake up early and view the trailer. And how I love the trailer. I would have to say this is one of the cutest movies ever only because their animation and story plot is so creative and ingenious. This little world has its own creatures and dust bunnies and magic to it.

If you are like me and love the classic anime movies by Studio Ghibli there are several other movies. Ones off the top are Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle (Oscar Nominee Best Animation).

And if you can't still get enough check out from our holiday gift guide, Love And A Sandwich's Dust Bunny Earrings. Have fun!
